YOUR DAY

Improving the visiting a museum with technology that enhances the human experience.

ISABELLA STEWART GARDNER MUSEUM

As one of the most popular museums in Boston it is rich with history, art and plant life to discover.

Unfortunately due to the lack of a labeling system (per Isabella's will) the museum is difficult to navigate and some treasures get overlooked. The museum is also home to one of the largest art heist in history.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We spoke to visitors and gallery attendants to understand the habits and desires of the community. To enhance the museum experience the solution would tackle three obstacles visitors face:

Lack of accessible information about the artwork.

Lack of direction or flow throughout the museum leaves visitors overwhelmed and aimless.

Visitors enjoy the 19th century feel and wish to keep technology to a minimum (ideally no ipads).

THE APPROACH

App features

CURATED TOURS

To get help wayfinding, the user can choose a pre-created tour or create their own tour to follow throughout their visit. By creating a tour the user can customize their experience for the duration of their stay and what type of art they want to see.

The app then guides the user through a demo of the wayfinding function.

NAVIGATION

ART EXPLAINED

Once a user approaches an art piece on their tour the information for the artwork pops up allowing the user to read or listen to the information now, save it for later on their tour (if the piece is very crowded or unavailable), or remove the piece from their tour entirely.

The final page gives a short conclusive summary of the trip with an image from the end of the tour. This project was a creative exercise and was not implemented by the museum.

You've come to the right blob. Whether you're creating from scratch or need help executing an idea, let's work together to make your creative dreams come true.

THE MEMORIES

Photographs that are taken on the trip (photo opportunities prompted in the app) and imagery of the museum break up the sections of the book by room.

After finishing the tour guests have the option to get a free PDF of the art they saw along with information about the artists sent to their email. Lastly, they get the opportunity to buy a  photobook with the photos they took during the their visit. Why buy the book?
